This card was created for a challenge over at 613 Avenue Create. The challenge this month is Floral Delight, but Anything Goes is also always an option there. The amazing sponsor this month is Sheepski: their digital stamps are fabulous. Hop on over and check out the awesome entries - and while you’re there, feel free to share a card and grow the creativity!

Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs. Let’s get Started:

Card Base 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Border: Black Frame - 5.25 x 4 outside dimensions

Card Face: 5.5 x 4.25 (before die cutting)

Black Cardstock 5.5 x 4.25 x 2

Card Face:

  • I laid the card face on my Grip Mat and positioned the stencil. I applied bright blue ink across the exposed surface using a heavier hand at the edges and fading towards the center.

  • Although the design of this stencil is square, I decided to turn it 90 degrees and create a diamond.

  • I put the card face into my stamp positioner, and then stamped the image with Memento ink, using the lines in the pattern to be certain that I was straight.

  • I coloured the image with alcohol markers.

  • I cut the card face down using the largest die in the diamond nesting die set. I placed the image towards the bottom of the diamond, rather than in the center: I liked the radiating lines showing above the image.

Other

  • I created the black frame by using two stitched rectangular dies and taping them together to ensure correct spacing when I put them through the Big Shot.

  • I decided that the card face needed a black border as well, but I didn’t have a larger die. To get around this I used the same die to create a black diamond, and cut that in quarters I glued these to the back of the card face, pulling each one out from the center so it would show. I made adjustments until all of the border pieces were equal.

  • I stamped and die-cut the sentiment.

Assembly

  • I glued the black border to the card face.

  • I put dimensional foam on the back of the card face and centered it on the card base.

  • I experimented with placement for the sentiment, ultimately gluing it in place as shown in the picture.

  • I added small gems in each corner.

Final Thoughts:

I’m really happy with this card: the angles and shapes provide a lot of interest in this design, but the focal image is strong enough to stand up to that.
