    Let’s get Started:

    Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

    Gold Foil Border Layer: 5.5 x 4.25

    Card Face:  5.25 x 4

    Transfer Foil:  5.5 x 4.25

    Card Face:

    • I laid my card face down on the Grip Mat and positioned the stencil.
    • I used medium-brown ink randomly across the exposed areas, varying pressure to control depth and skipping some areas completely.
    • Leaving the stencil in place,  I spread Duo Gel over some of the inked areas, allowing partial coverage even within some of the openings.
    • I removed the stencil and placed it in water immediately.   I set the card face down to dry (the gel is dry when it becomes transparent).
    • When the gel was dry, I placed the transfer foil on top and ran it through the Big Shot.
    • I removed the foil, and the dried gel (which had become an adhesive) left the foil on the card face.
    • I placed the card face in my stamp positioner and used brown ink to stamp the trees on the left of the card face.
    • I used a darker brown ink and stamped the deer in front of the trees.  I stamped a couple of times to ensure that it was intense enough to grab attention.
    • I used a corner chomper punch on each corner of the card face.

    Other:

    • I grabbed the sentiment you see from my binder.

    Assembly

    • I glued the foil border layer to the card base,  and then centered the card face on top of that.
    • I applied dimensional foam to the back of the sentiment and added it as shown.

    Final Thoughts:

    I couldn’t decide if I liked this for a few days:  it sat on my desk as I considered it.  It bothered me that I had lost part of the deer’s face due to the foiling,  and I needed to decide if it was “too much”.  In the end, I decided that I still liked this card –  I like the play between foil and inked surfaces,  and between coloured and uncoloured parts of the surface.

    Let’s get Started:

    Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

    Card Face:  5.5 x 4

    Scrap cardstock for die cut:  4 x 3  (before die cutting)

    Card Face:

    • I sprayed the stencil with Pixie spray and, after about 30 seconds, laid it on the card face.  I rolled over the stencil with a brayer to ensure good contact.
    • I placed the card face-up and stencil in my spray box and sprayed it with Lindy’s Stardust Spray in several colours.

    Other:

    • I used Mint Tape to secure the die to the piece of scrap cardstock and ran it through the Big Shot.
    • I reviewed my sentiment binder and selected one from those I had prepared in advance.

    (This is such a great time saver!)

    Assembly

    • I glued the card face onto the card base,  centering vertically.
    • I affixed the die-cut heart to the card face on the left.
    • I put dimensional foam tape on the back of the sentiment and positioned it as shown.

    Final Thoughts:

    I love the pretty colours and the organic feel of this card.

    Let’s get Started:

    Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

    Card Face:  5.5 x 4

    Focal die cut:  3×3 gold foil  (after die cutting)

    Scraps of cardstock for die-cut trees

    Transfer foil cut to 5.5 x 4

    Card Face:

    • I placed the card face onto a piece of scrap paper, positioned the stencil and secured it with Mint Tape.

    I have seen content producers use duo gel/embossing pastes with their Grip Mat, and everything turns out just fine. I don’t like to risk anything drying on my mat,  so I prefer to play it safe and use scrap computer paper.

    • I spread Duo Gel across all exposed areas, carefully removed the stencil, and set the card face down to dry.

    Duo gel dries into a very,very sticky adhesive – so the stencil went into water immediately,  to be scrubbed when my session was over.  This prevents the gel from drying on the stencil – it’s almost impossible to remove at that point.

    • Once the gel had dried, I carefully laid the transfer foil onto the card face and ran it through the Big Shot.   When I removed the foil the sticky Duo  Gel caused the stencilled pattern to stay behind.

    Other:

    • I placed the die onto the gold foil and ran it through the Big Shot.
    • I used two tree dies and the cardstock scraps, combining these with the Big Shot to create the small trees.
    • I looked through my sentiment binder to find a great sentiment for this card.

    Assembly

    I glued the card face onto the card base,  centering vertically.

    I turned the die-cut gold square to create a diamond, and glued that into the center of the card face, and then glued the trees on top of this.

    I positioned the sentiment strip across the center of the card face.

    Final Thoughts:

    This is a very structured card, softened by the foil on the card face.  Between that and the die cut from gold foil, the end result has a lovely shine and shimmer.

    Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

    Card Face:  5.25 x 4

    Focal Piece:  2.5 x 1 (after being trimmed down)

    Sentiment: 1.5 x 1.5 (after die cutting)

    Strips:  .25 x 5.25 ( x 2)

    Card Face:

    • I laid the card face onto the grip mat and positioned the Mod Rectangles stencil.
    • I applied red ink over all exposed areas,  deepening the colour at the edges to create a border.
    • After removing the first stencil, I placed the Airy Swirls stencil.
    • I covered all exposed areas with Duo Gel, removed the stencil carefully (to avoid smudges), and put the card face down to dry.
    • Once the gel was dry (it goes on white but becomes clear when dry), I laid a piece of transfer foil on top and ran it through the Big Shot.  When I removed the piece of foil, the sticky gel had left those areas of the foil in place, creating the stencilled pattern.

    When I use Duo Gel, the stencils go immediately into water once removed as the gel will be almost impossible to get off when dry.

    Other:

    • I placed the cardstock for the focal image into my stamp positioner and added the image of the woman with brown ink.  I used my trimmer to cut this to size along the dotted border, finishing with a corner punch to round the edges.
    • I replaced this with the smaller piece of cardstock for the sentiment, stamped it with the same brown ink, then cut it down to size with a die.

    Assembly

    • I centered the card face on the card base,  and then added the focal piece towards the left as shown.I glued the two narrow strips to the right of this image.
    • I added dimensional foam to the back of the sentiment and placed it as shown, allowing it to slightly overlap the focal image.   I added three small gold pearls at the bottom of this piece.

    Final Thoughts:

    Purple and red are a fabulous colour combination, and they work well with this pair of stencils: one so structured and the other so loose and flowing.   

    This created a fun backdrop for the tongue-in-cheek, vintage focal image.

    Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

    Card Face:  5.5 x 4

    Focal Image Strip:  5.5 x 1.75”

    Sentiment strip: .25” x 4

    Card Face:

    • I laid the card face onto the Grip Mat and positioned the Diamond Lattice stencil.  
    • I applied brown ink across all exposed areas, allowing variation in tone to provide depth and visual interest.
    • I applied DIY embossing paste randomly over the card face.  I carefully removed the stencil and put the card face aside to dry.  

    When I use embossing paste the stencil goes into water immediately to prevent the paste from drying on the stencil. This makes clean-up much faster and easier.

    • Once the paste had dried, I used the Grunge Dots stencil to add dots here and there in the remaining inked portions of the pattern.

    Other:

    • I placed the Focal Image strip into my stamp positioner and added the leaves with dark brown ink,  stamping several times to get an intense image.
    • I sprinkled clear embossing powder over the image,  setting it with my heat gun.
    • Next I placed the narrow sentiment strip in the stamp positioner and stamped the sentiment with the same dark brown ink,  again stamping multiple times to get intense colour.
    • I sprinkled this with clear embossing powder too, and set it with my heat gun.

    Although I used a dye based ink for both of these,  stamping several times created enough saturation that the ink was wet enough for me to use the embossing powder successfully. Stamping only once wouldn’t have worked, as the ink would have dried too quickly.

    Assembly

    • I glued the card face onto the card base, and then added the strip with the leaves, centering both vertically.
    • I put dimensional foam on the back of the sentiment and then added it to the card face, centering horizontally.

    Final Thoughts:

    The combination of ink and embossing paste work well with this design,  and the addition of the dots provided additional depth and visual interest.

    Card Base: 5.25 x 10.5,  scored and folded at 5.25

    Cream Border Layer: 5. X 5

    Red Border Layer  4 x 4

    Card Face: 3.75 x 3.75

    Scraps of cream and red cardstock for the banner and birds

    Card Face:

    • I laid the card face down onto scrap paper and positioned the stencil.  I applied green embossing paste to all exposed areas.
    • I removed the stencil carefully and put it into water immediately (to prevent the paste from drying on the surface).  
    • I put the card face aside to dry.  Once dry,  I used a corner punch on each corner, which created both the rounded edge and the peek-a-boo slot in the card face.

    Other:

    • I die-cut the banner 2x from cream cardstock and once from red.
    • I glued the two cream banners together, then added the red one behind, offsetting it just slightly.
    • I die-cut the tiny cardinals from the same red cardstock.
    • I put the banner in my stamp positioner and stamped Merry Christmas in red ink.
    • I put the cream border into an embossing folder and ran it through my Big Shot.

    Assembly

    • I glued the embossed, cream border to the card base, centering it on all sides.
    • I glued the card face to the red border layer, again centering it on all sides.
    • I glued these two layers together, again (of course!) centering on all sides.
    • I glued the banner into the center of the wreath.
    • I added the tiny cardinals as shown.

    Final Thoughts:

    I had such a time with that banner!   The first time I tried to glue it down I hadn’t allowed enough time for the ink to dry and smudged the red in the process.  The second attempt, I had glue on my finger, touched the red ink … and of course smudged it again.   At that point I put it aside for a couple of days –  I was tired of looking at it!

    When I returned to it I once again die cut a banner and stamped it, and very carefully glued it on top of what was there …  and I finally managed to get the task done without smudging it!

    Luckily,  I like the result, LOL.  The embossing paste has a lovely gleam and creates a wonderful backdrop for the banner and birds.

    Card Face:  5.25 x 4

    When I work with Duo Gel or embossing pastes I don’t use my Grip Mat –  purely a personal preference in the interest of protecting the surface of the mat.

    Card Face:

    • I put my card face on a sheet of scrap paper, positioned the stencil and fastened it in place with Mint Tape.  
    • I spread Duo Gel over the entire surface and then carefully removed the stencil.  The stencil is immediately immersed in water to prevent the gel from drying on the surface.
    • I put the card face aside to dry.  Duo Gel is dry when it is completely clear –  I usually leave it for two or three hours before coming back to it.
    • I don’t have running water near my craft room, so when working with this gel or pastes I have a container of water on the floor beside me so I can immerse the stencils immediately.  I usually do several of these at a time when I settle down to work with either gel or paste.
    • Once the card face had dried I laid a piece of transfer foil on top and ran it through the Big Shot.
    • The pressure from the machine caused the pretty part of the foil to stick to the Duo Gel,  so when I removed the sheet,  the silver stayed behind on the stencilled pattern.

    Other:

    • I used a scrap of heavy white cardstock to cut out the snowflake.
    • I looked through my sentiment binder and selected one that would work for this card.

    Assembly

    • I put dimensional foam on the back of my card face,  and then centered it on the card base.
    • I glued the snowflake to the card face as shown. (I allowed a little extra time for the liquid glue to grab on the foiled surface.)
    • I glued the sentiment across the center of the snowflake.
    • I added rhinestones to the top and bottom of the snowflake.

    Final Thoughts:

    If you’ve never tried foiling with stencils and duo gel,  I recommend it!  It’s a lot of fun  with gorgeous results –  just be certain to buy transfer foil for this purpose and you’re good to go.

    This was a really fast card to make,  but it was time consuming to figure out how to use the panel.  The foiling is gorgeous, and really packs a punch.  I tried several ideas, put it aside for a while, tried a few more …. And finally decided on the design that you see in the photo.

    Gold Border Layer: 5.25 x 4

    Card Face:  5 ⅛ x 3 7/8

    Card Face:

    • I laid the burgundy card face down onto my grip mat and positioned the stencil.  I applied Duo Gel through the stencil, then carefully removed it to avoid smudging the paste.
    • I put the stencil into water immediately,  and set the card face aside to dry.
    • Once the gel was dry, I set a piece of gold transfer foil on top of the (now very sticky) pattern, and ran this through my Big Shot.
    • After removing the transfer foil, I had a beautiful gold foiled starburst, created by the stencil + the paste and foil.

    Duo Gel  is a white paste when applied,  when dry it is clear and super sticky –  which is how it pulls the foil off of the backing sheet.

    Other:

    • I looked through my Ready To Go binder,  and found this gorgeous die-cut star, previously created and just waiting to be used.
    • I also found the perfect sentiment in my Sentiment Binder and pulled that out for use.

    Assembly

    I glued the gold foil cardstock to the card base, and then added the card face on top of this.

    I glued the die-cut star on top of the stencilled star burst.

    I added foam tape to the back of the sentiment and put it in place.

    And finally,  I put a pearl in the middle of the star.

    Final Thoughts:

    This card has such an elegant, luxe feel: there is just enough glimmer from the two different kinds of foil to give it an eye catching glimmer.

    Card Face:

    • I laid my card face on a piece of scrap paper and positioned the stencil.  I applied green embossing paste through the stencil, then removed the stencil very carefully so I didn’t smudge the paste.
    • The stencil went into water immediately,  and the card face was put aside to dry.
    • Once dry the card face was cut in half, and became 5.25 x 2.75.
    • I also cut ⅛” off the top and bottom of this piece.

    Other:

    • I glued the card face (or rather, half of it!)  to the kraft border layer on the left, ensuring equal spacing on the top, bottom and left-hand sides.
    • I placed this newly created combination into my stamp positioner and stamped the reindeer image with Versamark embossing ink.  I stamped several times to get a good impression.
    • I removed this from the stamp positioner, added copper embossing powder, and set it with my heat gun.
    • I drew a narrow line snugly against the right-hand edge of the cranberry cardstock,  added copper embossing powder and set it with my heat gun.  

    This was necessary because of the raised cranberry layer:  no ink transferred immediately beside it,  so I used the embossing pen to draw a line and fill in the narrow gap.

    • I stamped the sentiment on a scrap of cardstock in cranberry ink and cut it with a die.
    • I die cut a tiny bow out of the same cardstock.

    Assembly:

    • I glued the sentiment to the card face, allowing part of it to hang off the left-hand edge.  I cut this off flush.
    • I glued the card face to the card base.
    • I added the tiny bow to the reindeer as shown.

    Final Thoughts:

    I wasn’t at all sure about this design when I tried it,  but I quite like it in the end.

    This is such a great stencil to play with –  and I still  have half of it to work into a card.

    Create a one of a kind, elegant Thanksgiving card

    Let’s get Started:

    Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

    Border Layer: 5.5 x 4.25

    Card Face:  5.5 x 4.25  (before cutting)

    Card Face:

    • I used a background stamp and black ink to provide additional texture on this layer.

    My standard practice with background stamps is to lay the stamp on my work surface, ink it, and then carefully lay the cardstock on top.  I cover this with a piece of scrap paper and rub the surface gently with my fingers to transfer the ink, always holding the paper absolutely still with my other hand. (The scrap paper serves to keep any excess ink off of my hands, and it is sure to transfer to the card face!)

    • I placed the card face down on the Grip Mat and positioned the stencil.  I applied a variety of embossing pastes through this, mixing the colours randomly.  
    • I removed the stencil and immediately put it in water,  and put the card face aside to dry.
    • Once the paste had dried completely, I trimmed it into three equal pieces measuring 1” x 4.75” each.
    • I put dimensional foam on the back of each of these strips.

    Other:

    • I put the border layer into an embossing folder and ran it through the Big Shot.
    • I stamped the sentiment with Versamark embossing ink, added gold embossing powder and set it with the heat gun.  I used a die to create the final size and shape.
    • Then I ran each side of this die cut lightly over the Versamark pad,  added gold embossing powder and set it with my heat gun.  This added a very fine gold edging to the die cut.

    Assembly

    • I glued the border layer to the card base,
    • I removed the backing from each strip and put them in place as shown.
    • I glued the die-cut sentiment into the middle of the card.

    Final Thoughts:

    The border layer for this actually started with a stamped image that I wasn’t happy with:  it was a new stamp, and the image hadn’t transferred as well as hoped.  Rather than waste this,  I made use of that paper and ink to create a background for this card.

    The card is so beautiful in real life – that embossing paste dries with a lovely sheen which is gorgeous with all that mixed colour.

    The use of the embossing folder on this card makes a subtle but massive difference to the end result – the additional depth and texture really elevated the card.
